Some beginning designers avoid ‘simple’ forms such as rectangles like the plague, in an attempt to be out-of-the-box. In truth, there is so much potential for innovation to these simple geometric forms. Take for example this cafe done by Kengo Kuma + Associates. I don’t think many people would complain “oh, the plan of this cafe is just a rectangle”. A great designer can turn a simple form into something brilliant. It just goes to show that we experience spaces in 3D, and not in floor plan.
